# How to choose a dedicated server provider that takes crypto: 12 checks

A crypto payment cannot be reversed, so choose the host before you send anything. Twelve checks, what a good answer looks like, the red flags to walk away from, and how PowerDedi answers each one.

Paying for a server in cryptocurrency changes one thing above all: the payment cannot be reversed. There is no chargeback if the server never arrives, if the host asks for your passport once the coins have landed, or if the “unlimited” bandwidth turns out to have a ceiling. The twelve checks below are the ones worth making before you send anything. Each one says what a good answer looks like and, so you can compare, how PowerDedi answers it.

## The 12 checks at a glance

| Check | A good answer | At PowerDedi |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Identity checks | Stated up front: what is asked, and when | None: an email address and a password |
| Coins and networks | The exact coins and networks, listed before sign-up | BTC, ETH, XMR, USDT on TRON (TRC-20), SOL |
| Price lock | A fiat price, with the crypto amount locked for a stated time | USD; 30 minutes, 45 for Bitcoin and Monero |
| Payment mistakes | A written process for short, excess and late payments | Reported from the payment page; what arrives is credited |
| Refunds | The cases, the deadline and how the amount is paid back | Unused balance within 30 days; late delivery in full |
| Bandwidth | Port speed and billing model in plain words | 10 Gbps port, unmetered, no 95th percentile |
| DDoS protection | Included, always on, with its scope stated | Network-level mitigation on every server |
| Out-of-band access | An IPMI / KVM console you can use yourself | In the browser, on every server |
| Delivery time | A time per configuration, and a remedy if it is missed | About 15 minutes in stock; 24 or 72 hours built to order |
| Rules | A public Acceptable Use Policy that names what is allowed | Public; VPNs and non-exit Tor relays allowed |
| Data kept | What is stored, and how legal requests are handled | Email, billing and service data; no ID, no card |
| Commitment | Monthly billing, no setup fee, simple cancellation | Monthly, no setup fee, cancel anytime |

## 1. Identity checks: what is asked, and when

“No KYC” only means something if it still holds after you pay. Some hosts accept crypto but ask for an ID document, a selfie or a phone number at the first order, or when an automated fraud score flags the account: exactly when a crypto payment can no longer be taken back. Look for a written statement of what is collected and when, in the terms or the privacy policy rather than in a sales chat.

**At PowerDedi:** an email address and a password open an account, and no ID document, selfie, phone number or card is ever requested. [No-KYC dedicated servers](https://powerdedi.com/no-kyc-dedicated-servers)

## 2. Coins and networks

“We accept crypto” can mean one coin through a third-party checkout or several coins on several networks. Check the exact list and, for stablecoins, the exact network: USDT circulates on several blockchains, and a transfer sent on the wrong one may not be recoverable. Fees and confirmation times also differ widely from one coin to the next, which matters for small or urgent payments.

**At PowerDedi:** Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Monero (XMR), Tether USDT on TRON (TRC-20) only, and Solana (SOL). Our [comparison of the five coins](https://powerdedi.com/blog/bitcoin-ethereum-monero-usdt-solana-paying-for-servers) gives the network fees and confirmation times we measured.

## 3. Price lock and exchange rate

Servers are priced in a fiat currency, so the crypto amount is computed at a rate that has to stay valid long enough for you to send it. A window that is too short on a slow chain means expired invoices and refunds to chase. Look for the window for each coin, and for what happens to a payment that confirms just after it closes.

**At PowerDedi:** prices are in US dollars; the crypto amount is locked for 30 minutes, or 45 minutes for Bitcoin and Monero, and a payment that confirms shortly after the window is still detected and credited.

## 4. Short, excess and wrong-network payments

Exchanges often take their withdrawal fee out of the amount sent, so invoices are regularly underpaid by a few cents or a few dollars. A good host explains before you pay how partial, excess and wrong-network payments are handled, instead of leaving it to a support thread afterwards.

**At PowerDedi:** a payment confirms automatically when the exact amount arrives. If you sent less or more, you report it from the payment page with the transaction ID and whatever arrived is credited to your balance. Payments on the wrong network are recovered when that is technically possible, without a guarantee. [Payment guide](https://powerdedi.com/docs/pay-with-crypto)

## 5. Refunds in crypto

Crypto refunds need a written policy: which cases qualify, how long you have to ask, how the amount is valued and where it is sent. Without one, a refund depends on goodwill.

**At PowerDedi:** unused balance is refundable within 30 days of a top-up, and a server that is not delivered on time is refunded in full. [Refund Policy](https://powerdedi.com/legal/refunds)

## 6. Bandwidth: port speed and billing model

“Unlimited” usually comes with a fair-use clause; “unmetered” should mean the traffic is not counted at all. Check the port speed, whether traffic is billed by volume or at the 95th percentile, and whether there is an inbound/outbound ratio. On a metered plan, a busy month can cost more than the server itself.

**At PowerDedi:** every server has its own 10 Gbps port and the traffic is unmetered: no quota, no overage, no 95th-percentile billing and no ratio. [What 10 Gbps unmetered means](https://powerdedi.com/network/10gbps-unmetered)

## 7. DDoS protection

Crypto, gaming and privacy services attract attacks. Check that mitigation is included and always on, and which attacks it covers: filtering network-level floods is not the same as stopping application-level attacks.

**At PowerDedi:** network-level (L3/L4) mitigation is always on for every server at no extra cost; application-level protection, such as rate limiting, stays on your side. [DDoS protection](https://powerdedi.com/network/ddos-protection)

## 8. Out-of-band access

An IPMI or KVM console lets you repair a server that no longer boots, install any operating system from an ISO and reach the BIOS without opening a ticket. Without one, every firewall or boot mistake becomes a support request, and a wait.

**At PowerDedi:** a browser-based IPMI / KVM console and a rescue system on every server. [Console guide](https://powerdedi.com/docs/ipmi-kvm-console)

## 9. Delivery time

“Instant” should come with a number for each configuration, and with a remedy when it is missed, because a crypto payment cannot be charged back.

**At PowerDedi:** in-stock configurations are provisioned about 15 minutes after the payment confirms; built-to-order ones show 24 or 72 hours next to their price, and a late delivery is refunded in full. [Instant servers](https://powerdedi.com/dedicated-servers/instant)

## 10. Rules: a public Acceptable Use Policy

Privacy-friendly hosts still have rules, and useful ones are specific: whether VPN services, Tor relays, mining or mail servers are allowed, how abuse reports are handled and how long you have to respond. A host without public rules can change them after you have paid.

**At PowerDedi:** the Acceptable Use Policy is public. VPN services are allowed, non-exit Tor relays are welcome, exit relays need prior written approval, and CPU mining is allowed. Spam, attacks, malware and illegal content are not. [Acceptable Use Policy](https://powerdedi.com/legal/acceptable-use)

## 11. Data kept and legal requests

Paying in crypto does not make an account anonymous: the host still holds an email address, billing records and server data, and transparent blockchains record the payment. What matters is what is stored, for how long, and how requests from authorities are handled.

**At PowerDedi:** we keep your email address, billing records (amounts, deposit addresses and transaction hashes) and service data such as your server’s configuration; no ID documents and no card data. We act only on valid orders from competent authorities and notify you when we are legally allowed to. Paying with Monero keeps the payment itself private on-chain. [Privacy Policy](https://powerdedi.com/legal/privacy)

## 12. Contract, setup fees and cancellation

A low monthly price sometimes hides a setup fee or a 12- to 36-month commitment. Check both, and how cancellation works.

**At PowerDedi:** monthly billing, no setup fee and no contract. A cancelled server keeps running until the end of the period already paid. [Pricing](https://powerdedi.com/pricing)

## Red flags

- **“Fully anonymous” promises.** A host always knows something, at least an email address and the payment. Privacy comes from what it collects and keeps, not from slogans.
- **ID requested after payment.** A “no KYC” host that asks for documents once the crypto has arrived.
- **Vague bandwidth terms.** “Unlimited” without a port speed, or a fair-use clause without numbers.
- **No public rules or refund policy.** What is not written down before you pay can change afterwards.
- **Prices far below the cost of the hardware.** Current servers have real costs; a price well under the market deserves an explanation. Ours is [on a public page](https://powerdedi.com/why-powerdedi).

## Questions buyers ask

### Which cryptocurrency is best for paying for a server?

It depends on what matters most. USDT on TRON avoids price swings and confirms in about a minute; Solana confirms in under a minute for a fraction of a cent; Monero hides the amount and the addresses on-chain; Bitcoin is the most widely held but takes 10 to 30 minutes to confirm. The [full comparison](https://powerdedi.com/blog/bitcoin-ethereum-monero-usdt-solana-paying-for-servers) covers fees and exchange pitfalls.

### Is a server paid in crypto anonymous?

Private, not anonymous. Without identity checks, the host knows an email address and the payment. On Bitcoin, Ethereum, TRON and Solana the payment is public on the blockchain; on Monero it is not.

### How quickly can I get a server paid in crypto?

At PowerDedi, in-stock servers are ready about 15 minutes after the payment confirms on its blockchain. Confirmation itself takes from under a minute (Solana, USDT on TRON) to 10–30 minutes (Bitcoin, Monero).

### How much does a dedicated server paid in crypto cost?

The same as any dedicated server: it depends on the hardware. PowerDedi’s servers start at $55 a month with a 10 Gbps unmetered port; our [cheapest server for each need](https://powerdedi.com/cheap-dedicated-servers) lists the entry price per use case and per city.
